ENC Hosts Annual NSLC Conference

May 8, 2023

QUINCY, MA – Eastern Nazarene College welcomed student leaders from Nazarene institutions across the country for the annual Nazarene Student Leadership Conference (NSLC) this April.

The theme for NSLC 2023 was kenosis, a Biblical term that summarizes leading others by serving with humility. It refers to the concept of Jesus’s ethic of self-emptying, and seeking power not for ego but in service of others.

The conference, held from April 12-15 at ENC’s campus near Boston, was constructed mainly of professional and personal development sessions with plenty of fun peppered in. Students from other US Nazarene Institutions came together to learn from highly decorated speakers like Point Loma Nazarene University’s Dr. Montague Williams. Dr. William’s illustrious career includes a Ph.D. in Theological Studies from Boston University and numerous teaching, writing, and preaching awards, including a Teaching Excellence Award from Eastern Nazarene College. Colorado Christian University’s Dr. Neal Anderson served as the Leadership Facilitator for the Conference’s events.

After student leaders arrived, they were welcomed with an opening banquet and subsequent tee-shirt exchange. The next morning, following breakfast, leadership activities preluded and followed Dr. William’s chapel speech and talkback session. Students had time to bond with students from other Nazarene schools at a dodgeball tournament that evening before leadership events began the next morning. Dr. Williams led students in another session before the conference ended, and students enjoyed an excursion into Boston for a Red Sox game.

NSLC is hosted annually at one of the Nazarene universities located in the United States and provides opportunities for student leaders from each school to travel and learn from every institute. Eastern Nazarene College was honored to follow 2022 host, Mount Vernon Nazarene University, and further train humble servant-leaders.

Students from Northwest Nazarene University compete in dodgeball.
