Dr. Bekele joined ENC in the fall of 2023 as an Assistant Professor. Before that, he taught at Dalian University of Technology (DUT), Arba Minch University, and high schools in Ethiopia. He also worked as a postdoctoral researcher at DUT. He primarily teaches courses such as Ecology, Environmental Science, and Conservation Biology. His research interests focus mainly on chemical exposure and risk assessment, with an emphasis on bioaccumulation, biotransformation, trophic transfer, and health risk assessment of emerging organic contaminants. His contributions to the field are demonstrated by the publication of over 25 papers and book chapters in high-quality, reputable journals as of June 2024. His ResearchGate score is higher than 82% of all ResearchGate members. Dr. Bekele is passionate about fieldwork in ecological and environmental research and frequently holds field trips and educational visits for hands-on training with his students.
Dr. Bekele leads the Animal Caretakers Team at ENC. He loves watching and playing soccer, especially in European leagues, and he also enjoys listening to music. He lives in Quincy, MA with his wife and two kids.
