Biographical Notes
Dr. John W. Nielson is an Ordained Elder in the Church of the Nazarene and has been teaching at ENC since 2018. He teaches courses in Ministry and Practical Theology for the Religion and Culture Program as well as overseeing the Worship Arts major. He also serves as Music Director for ENC Music, where he oversees a variety of musical expressions here at ENC.
Prior to joining the faculty of Eastern Nazarene College, Dr. Nielson served as the Lead Pastor of the Melwood Church of the Nazarene in Upper Marlboro, Maryland (in the Mid-Atlantic District) for 24 years. Before this assignment, he served as the Worship Pastor at St. Paul’s Church of the Nazarene in Kansas City, MO for five years.
The topic of his doctoral work was, “Practices of Corporate Lament for the Local Parish.”
In addition to teaching at ENC, Dr. Nielson is an adjunct Professor at Nazarene Bible College. Dr. Nielson also is currently on staff at the Wollaston Church of the Nazarene where he serves as Worship Pastor. He also serves as Education Coordinator for the New England District Church of the Nazarene and is a member of the USA/Canada Regional Course of Study Advisory Committee for the Church of the Nazarene.
Dr. Nielson lives in Quincy with his wife, Amy who serves as Administrative Assistant/Receptionist at the Brickley Center here at ENC. He has three daughters, Bethany (Nielson) Wong, Kathryn (Nielson) Drennan, and Jenna.
