Weekly Briefing

Apr 17, 2020

In an effort to provide coordinated and timely updates related to institutional response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, we will be producing a weekly briefing.  This briefing will summarize community communication that has been distributed to faculty, staff, and students within the week and provide a campus status report.

On-campus Prevention Efforts

Students and essential employees on campus have been strongly encouraged to practice physical (social) distancing allowing at least 6 feet between people needing to interact in person.  A large number of employees have transitioned to working from home and all meetings have transitioned to virtual platforms.

In accordance with Governor Baker’s and the CDC guidance we would like to encourage everyone to heed the strong recommendation to wear a face mask/covering when outside your personal office or apartment.  You can spread the coronavirus without knowing it if you do not have any symptoms. The main purpose of wearing a mask is to protect other people from your droplets just in case you are carrying the virus. This is an important action that you can personally take to show your care for others and your support of the first responders on the front lines.

Community Connection Opportunities

There are many opportunities to stay connected to the ENC community while practicing good physical distance.  SGA, Community Life, and Spiritual Development are still providing ways for the community to connect socially and spiritually. Please follow all of the ENC SGA, Veritas, and College social media accounts for daily events and opportunities to engage.  In addition to the Thursday Campus Chronicle we have added a Tuesday Wellness Edition.  The Wellness Editions will provide you new opportunities weekly  to promote your holistic growth.  You can check the [enc.presence.io]ENC Events app to learn about fun virtual events that you and your friends can engage in.  If you haven’t already, I encourage you to check-out the new ENC Podcast.  Many campus services remain available to students including Counseling Services, Career Services, Library and CAS Services.

Staff are invited to a Zoom Lunch Connect on Monday, April 20th at noon.  Watch your inbox for a Zoom Invitation.

Faculty Virtual Coffee happens each Monday morning.  Please see communication from Sarah Shobert.

Campus Status Report

We have three confirmed cases of COVID-19 within the ENC community.  We are pleased to report that these individuals are home in self-isolation and recovering well.  Any community member that may have been in contact with these individuals has been notified and will be in self-quarantine for the appropriate length of time.  We are grateful for how seriously our community has taken the guidance of the Emergency Response Team (ERT).  Continued adherence to ERT, state, and federal guidance will help us reduce chances of infection and spreading the virus.

Online Resources

The College continues to maintain an active website with timely information related to COVID-19 and institutional response.  This informative site can be found at: https://enc.edu/covid-19-information/

Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire ENC family across the world as we navigate these trying times.  Above all we are grateful for a God who is present in our daily lives and who demonstrates how to love and live.

Blessings to you on behalf of the Emergency Response Team,

Jeffrey Kirksey
