QUINCY, MA – Rising senior Patrick Lule has been awarded the 2023 Audrey Ward Staff Scholarship for Service. The $500 scholarship is awarded to a student voted upon by Eastern Nazarene College staff. Nominees are selected based on their dedication to service, leadership, and Christian witness.
The scholarship was created by staff members in 1992 to honor Ward’s legacy of service to the College. Ward was the longest-serving staff member before her retirement in 1993, having spent 42 years as a bookkeeper followed by eight years in the Office of Church and Alumni Relations. Since its inception, staff members have donated to the scholarship fund and acted as the Nominating Committee for contenders.
The Audrey Ward Staff Scholarship for Service is awarded to an exemplary rising senior. The nominee should also demonstrate characteristics that honor Ward’s legacy of service to the mission of the College, including demonstration of a servant role through community involvement, leadership, and student-led ministries; this person is a strong Christian witness, committed to ENC, and is willing to go the extra mile—a true unsung hero.
Patrick Lule joined the ENC community as a transfer student in the Spring semester 2022. Lule, an international student from Uganda and Applied Physics major, was nominated for his quiet, humble, and hard-working nature. He can be found in both the mailroom and the school store, and over the summer, as part of the Grounds team.
“I love working with the ENC community. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly,” says Lule. “I chose ENC because as a Christian man, I wanted to attend a school with the same Christian values as I have.”
