Community Health Notice

Apr 7, 2020

We want to start by thanking you, the ENC community, for your dedication and all of your efforts to rise to the challenges we are facing today with the COVID-19 pandemic. We regret to inform you that two members of our ENC community have tested positive for COVID-19.  These individuals are both in good condition in their homes in self-isolation and receiving the necessary care to treat their condition. While news like this is not necessarily unexpected, we know that it may hit home for many of us making this situation very real. We ask that you please continue to take good care of yourself and your loved ones as we all navigate this truly challenging moment.

Rest assured that all necessary precautions are being taken to protect the health and safety of our community. One of these measures has been to close Campus Kinder Haus for this week. When there is a confirmed case of COVID-19, the local Board of Health provides direction and oversight of health and safety procedures related to the case. ENC Health Services remains in regular contact with the Quincy Health Department and continues to follow their directives. Those individuals who may have had direct contact with these people during the relevant period have been identified, notified, and have placed themselves in self-quarantine for 14 days after their last contact with these individuals.

All of us can do our part to stem the spread of COVID-19.  First and foremost, if you suspect that you have symptoms associated with COVID-19, you should stay at home and call your doctor to discuss your illness. If you are on campus, please contact ENC Health Services at 617-745-3893. We ask that you provide the following information when you call: your full name, phone number, and a brief description of why you are calling.  We are receiving many inquiries, so this will allow us to address them most effectively and expeditiously.

Secondly, you should practice good personal hygiene and follow physical distancing guidelines set by local, state, and federal health agencies:

  • Wash your hands after touching commonly used items or encountering someone who is sick. Proper hand washing involves scrubbing hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your face, nose, mouth and eyes.
  • Sneeze or cough into your elbow, rather than your hand.
  • Properly dispose of anything that touches your mouth such as tissues or plastic eating utensils.
  • Avoid contact with individuals displaying symptoms of illness.
  • Maintain a distance of at least six feet between you and the nearest person.
  • Wear a face covering when in public.

As testing for COVID-19 increases, we may well learn of additional confirmed cases, as has been true in communities across the nation and around the world. While we will continue to communicate openly and frequently as the situation unfolds, we also have a duty to protect the privacy of any individual who tests positive for COVID-19, so that they can focus on their health as they receive the care that they need. Please respect their privacy and refrain from sharing information informally.

We want to end by expressing our sincere gratitude for your ongoing understanding and patience.  This is truly an unprecedented moment, and we are deeply committed to keeping you informed and involved during this uncertain time.  If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to email COVID-19@enc.edu. Please continue to offer support and care to one another. We will get through this together. God bless you and our entire ENC community during these difficult times.

Blessings,
