Eastern Nazarene College Appoints Robert Hartman as Vice President for Finance/CFO/COO

Jul 21, 2023

QUINCY, Mass. — Eastern Nazarene College (ENC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Robert Hartman as vice president for Finance/CFO/COO. Hartman comes to ENC from Columbia International University in South Carolina, where he served as the chief financial officer, with a portfolio of responsibilities that included the accounting, finance, financial aid, facilities, risk management, security, and human resources departments.

Hartman holds an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University and a bachelor’s degree in religious education from Union Bible College (Ind.). His extensive experience in higher education began at Union Bible College where he was vice president responsible for leading the staff in the college’s day-to-day operations. After leaving Union Bible College, Hartman spent time in industry prior to returning to higher education as the executive director of finance/human resources liaison at Indiana Wesleyan University. Hartman went on to serve as vice president for finance, administration, and human resources/CFO at Ohio Christian University before becoming the chief financial officer at Columbia International University (S.C.).

As vice president for finance/CFO/COO, Hartman will provide overall strategic leadership to ENC in the areas of financial strategy and planning, budget development, resource allocation, accounting, risk management, and information technology. The vice president provides direct oversight to the following offices: finance, risk management, and IT and reports directly to the president and is a member of the President’s Cabinet.

ENC President Colleen Derr, Ed.D., is enthusiastic regarding Hartman’s appointment. “ENC is blessed to welcome Rob to this executive leadership role. His wealth of wisdom and experience, commitment to Christian higher education, and servant-leadership approach, will serve ENC well in the months and years ahead.”

“Joy and I are excited to join Dr. Derr and the ENC Family. We knew when our service at CIU was over, our service in the Kingdom was not. ENC is the right fit at the right moment in our journey,” Hartman stated.

Hartman has been married to his wife Joy for 44 years and they have a daughter and two grandchildren. Outside of work he enjoys tinkering around the house, adjunct teaching, and preaching. Hartman begins his full-time role at ENC on August 14.
