The fourth annual Donald A. Yerxa lecture series welcomed Timothy Samuel Shah, associate director of the Religious Freedom Project at the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs and visiting assistant professor in the Government Department, Georgetown University. His lecture, entitled “The Liberating Kingdom: Recovering Christianity’s Surprising and Often Forgotten Contributions to Human Freedom”, was given at no charge on March 18, 2014 at 7:00pm in the Ruth Cameron Auditorium at the Mann Student Center.
About Our Speaker: Timothy Samuel Shah is an award-winning political scientist whose scholarly focus has been the relationship between religion and political freedom. He is Associate Director of the Religious Freedom Project at the Berkley Center For Religion, Peace, and World Affairs and Visiting Assistant Professor in the Government Department at Georgetown University. Among his publications are: Religious Freedom: Why Now? Defending an Embattled Human Right (The Witherspoon Institute, 2012) and a major new collection of essays co-edited with Alfred Stepan and Monica Toft, Rethinking Religion and World Affairs (Oxford University Press, 2012). He is also co-author of God’s Century: Resurgent Religion and Global Politics (Norton, 2011). Shah is editor of the Oxford University Press series on “Evangelical Christianity and Democracy in the Global South.” His articles on religion and global politics have appeared in Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, the Journal of Democracy, the Review of Politics, and elsewhere.
