Bertha Munro Scholarship

The Bertha Munro Scholarship is a full-tuition scholarship for students who exemplify high academic success as well as leadership and service. Recipients of this award will have demonstrated hard work through their high school careers and will have touched the lives of others through different areas such as community service, leadership opportunities, extracurricular activities and more.

History of the Scholarship

The Bertha Munro Scholarship is a full-tuition scholarship in honor of ENC’s first Dean, Bertha Munro. Dean Munro is a woman permanently embedded in the campus and collective memories of the ENC community. She gave of herself in many ways, serving in just about every capacity short of the presidency of Eastern Nazarene College. She was brilliant, scholarly, dignified, compassionate, wise, gentle, and faithful to God and His mission for her life. Her passion may be best summed up in her own words – “There is no conflict between the best in education and the best in our Christian faith.”

To apply for the Munro Scholarship, students must have a 27 or higher composite score on the ACT or 1280 on the SAT with a 3.5 or higher GPA. We encourage students that meet these academic requirements to apply for admissions to the college and register for the Munro Scholarship Day event on November 30th, 2018. Students who do not meet these exact academic requirements but who are still eligible for ENC’s President or Trustee-level merit aid may attend the day and compete for some of our other available Honors Scholar aid as well.

Munro Scholarship Day

Eligible students will be invited to ENC’s campus for Munro Scholarship Day on November 30th, including an optional overnight stay for students on November 29th. As we celebrate the academic achievements of these hard-working, high-achieving students, we also give them the chance to experience our campus and interact with fellow scholars. Students who attend will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with professors in their intended field of study, tour the campus with current students, and interview with ENC’s Academic Deans and members of the President’s Cabinet. This V.I.P. Day is tailor-made for these exceptional students.

Being selected to compete at Munro Scholarship Day enters students into the prestigious category of “Munro Scholar.” These individuals are the best and brightest, and as such Munro Scholars have opportunities afforded them that are unique to their status. Additionally, Munro Scholars receive special recognition at their time of graduation from ENC. These are the elite academic students within the university.
