Students Volunteer for Owl Eve
Published: November 13, 2012
On Saturday, November 3, nine ENC students and Prof. Jonathan Twining volunteered for Massachusetts Audubon’s Owl Eve event at the Blue Hills Trailside Museum. Several of the students acted as trail guides for a candlelit stroll around the museum’s grounds, while others acted as “Not-Quite-Nocturnal Players” in owl-themed skits along the pathway. Tamakiel Lewis warmly greeted those that were coming for the event, while Meghan Holden worked at the craft table, helping children make owl headbands to wear. Participants were also able to see displays of the wildlife native to the Blue Hills Reservation, see live owls while their handlers answered questions about these nocturnal birds, and hear Museum director Norman Smith sharing exciting discoveries he has made about owls over the past 20 years. A great time was had by all, despite the cold, and it was a great opportunity for ENC students to make a positive impact in the community regarding conservation and environmental issues.
