President Dr. Corlis McGee to receive South Shore Women’s Business Achievement Award
Published: September 28, 2011
The South Shore Women’s Business Network has selected Eastern Nazarene College President Dr. Corlis McGee as the first recipient of its “South Shore Women’s Business Achievement Award.”
Created as part of the network’s year-long 20th anniversary celebration, the award recognizes a local businesswoman who exemplifies the South Shore Women’s Business Network’s commitment to helping other women grow and develop professionally. The award will be presented at the network’s upcoming 20th anniversary celebration, to be held November 3 at Raffael’s at the South Shore Country Club and featuring WCVB anchor Susan Wornick as guest speaker.
“As president of Eastern Nazarene College, Dr. McGee oversees all aspects of the college’s undergraduate, graduate and adult studies programs,” said SSWBN Executive Director Katie Howard, who noted a panel of judges selected McGee for the award from more than two dozen nominations submitted by network members and the general public. “She has supported the advancement of women into positions of academic and administrative leadership while also strengthening ENC’s adult studies programs that enable working adults to further their education while balancing work and family responsibilities. We are honored to recognize her accomplishments with the South Shore Women’s Business Achievement Award.”
Since joining ENC as president in 2005, McGee has expanded the college’s role in the wider community, providing student interns to local businesses and forming partnerships with regional non-profit organizations. ENC also launched the Center for Responsibility and Justice, which provides ENC students with opportunities to assist local social service organizations in achieving their missions.
A graduate of Trevecca Nazarene University, Dr. McGee earned an MBA from the University of Tennessee at Nashville and later a Doctor of Arts in Economics from Middle Tennessee State University. Prior to joining ENC, she served in a number of increasingly responsible leadership positions in higher education, including dean of graduate studies at Point Loma Nazarene University and rector of European Nazarene College.
