Eastern Nazarene College (ENC) announces the creation of the Global Scholars Program Scholarship. The scholarship will support the ability of high achieving international students, particularly those from sub-Saharan African countries, to attend ENC.
Dr. Krista and Mr. Jesse Casler (both Class of 1999) and Dr. Robert (Class of 1992) & Mrs. Wanda Gailey (Class of 1993) contributed a total of $100,000 to endow the scholarship. Both households have a deep history of international work and a passion for education. They see this as an exciting opportunity for ENC to attract even more high-quality students from outside of the US.
The Caslers shared, “We have dreamed of doing something like this at ENC for a long time. This past summer, while talking with our good friends the Gaileys, we learned of their shared heart to support African students coming to ENC. We were thrilled when they agreed to join us to make the Global Scholars Program a reality!”
“Over the years we have been impressed with the diversity of students attending ENC and have been looking for ways to support underrepresented students in paying for a college education. We believe diversity of perspectives strengthens learning and improves decision-making. We also believe a small step towards addressing historic inequality is to invest in communities previously excluded or marginalized.” The Gaileys continued, “When the Caslers shared their vision, it was exciting to see such alignment with our passions and it motivated us to get involved. We hope other alums will join us in this endeavor!”
The Scholarship will focus on recruiting students from international secondary schools, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, to create excitement and energy around applying to ENC. The scholarship recipient will receive the scholarship all four years of the student’s education, provided the student maintains the requirements of the program.
“On behalf of the entire ENC community, it is my privilege to thank the Caslers and the Gaileys for their vision and generosity in establishing this new scholarship program. I look forward to the impact an ENC education will have in the lives of the recipients, and to the many ways in which those students will enrich the ENC experience. Our mission of providing a Christ-centered transformational education for students from diverse backgrounds takes a major step forward with this gift,” shared President Dr. Connell.
