Religion professor and Nazarene pastor Jeffrey Barker received the 2012 Friend of Germantown Award on July 18 at the Germantown Neighborhood Center’s 18th Annual Community Appreciation Day cookout. Barker was awarded for his “leadership, commitment and support of children and families living in the Germantown community”.
Quincy’s Germantown neighborhood is a seaside community featuring both single-family homes and public housing, and the award honors those who are committed to helping the community continue to thrive and succeed. Barker’s parish, Bethel Church of the Nazarene, is located near Germantown and has organized food pantry contributions for the community. Barker has served the neighborhood personally by sitting on the YMCA Board of the Germantown Branch, advocating for the neighborhood, and raising $1500 for the Germantown Neighborhood Center in the Rodman Ride for Kids.
