Duke University Professor Emeritus Stanley Hauerwas will be the guest speaker for Eastern Nazarene College’s annual Gould Holiness Lecture, to be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6 in the sanctuary of the Wollaston Church of the Nazarene.
Titled “Church Matters! Why the World Needs the Church to be the Church!,” Hauerwas’s lecture will consider the role of the church “in a time when secularism has become a radical expression of modernity.” Following the presentation, a time of discussion and refreshments will be held in the church’s Metcalfe Gathering Room.
The Gilbert T. Rowe Professor Emeritus of Divinity and Law at Duke University, Hauerwas is the author of “Community of Character: Toward a Constructive Christian Social Ethic” and “Vision and Virtue: Essays in Christian Ethical Reform.”
Discussion and refreshments will be held afterwards in the Metcalfe Gathering Room located on the ground floor of the church. Refreshments are provided by the New England District Church of the Nazarene in collaboration with the Religion & Philosophy Department of Eastern Nazarene College.
