Eastern Nazarene College announced the appointment of Robert Cornell as Vice President for Finance and Chief Financial Officer, effective November 11, 2019. As a graduate of Eastern Nazarene College (’76) and Trustee (since 2012), Mr. Cornell brings a wealth of institutional knowledge to the role. As a business leader of over 40 years, he brings an expertise in financial management, business planning, and operations to the leadership team of the college.

He understands our mission, loves our students, and will guide our financial strategy in a way that will lead us to a flourishing future,” said Jack Connell, President of Eastern Nazarene College.
Mr. Cornell served as Vice President and Actuary of Talcott Resolution Life since 2018 and Hartford Life Insurance Company from 2001 to 2018, where he was responsible for product and asset/liability management as well as reserves and risk management strategies for $20 billion in institutional business and retail fixed annuity products. From 1994 to 2008, Mr. Cornell was responsible for investment management, new business planning, and financial operations for the offshore insurance company, RAC Advisory Services LLC. He started his long and impressive financial management career at The Travelers in Hartford, CT in 1976, rising to the level of Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Actuary in 1990. As a leader in the financial division of the group pension business at Travelers, Mr. Cornell was responsible for managing over $50 billion in assets, developing and communicating financial products to senior management, major customers, financial analysts, and rating agencies.
He is actively involved in the Nazarene church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, Board Member, and Chair of the Finance Committee for the Manchester Church of the Nazarene. His Eastern Nazarene College roots are deep with several family members having graduated from the college, including his father, Derrell Cornell (’39); two sisters, Kathleen Foster and Darlene Stottsberry; wife, Phyllis (Cox ’78); and three daughters Ashley Stanford (’09), Alison Campolongo (’11), and Amy Cornell (’15).
