Congratulations Class of 2019!

May 7, 2019

Rain subsided and excitement abounded as ENC celebrated it’s 97th Commencement on Saturday, May 4th. The 196 graduates of the Class of 2019 gathered in celebration with family and friends on the college’s front lawn.

ENC’s new President, Rev. Dr. Jack Connell, presided over the ceremony. His commencement address titled “Why do people turn out the way they do?” charged the crowd to exhibit and hold in high regard intellectual curiosity and humility. In his address, President Connell noted that the way in which we think affects every part of our life, shaping who we are as people. He asked the 2019 graduating class to stay humble, to be able to admit when they’re wrong, and to go out of their way to talk with people who are different than themselves.

The College recognized exemplary students bestowing achievement awards to several of its graduates. Rebekah Hay and Connor Hudson-Bryant were honored as Outstanding Seniors. Michael Valois earned the Outstanding Undergraduate Student award, and Adult and Graduate Studies honored Kimberly Levis and Patrick Corcoran as Outstanding Graduate Students.

Senior class president, Jesse Ruiz, presented ENC with a $10,000 gift to endow their class scholarship–keeping with tradition of the Every Class A Scholarship Initiative. Ruiz noted that this significant gift was made possible through the care and commitment of many students, alumni and parents of the Class of 2019 who donated. Eastern Nazarene College Alumni Council President, Janelle Beiler, closed the ceremony graciously welcoming this year’s graduates into the fold of alumni. She remarked, “You are joining thousands who have gone before you and we invite you to take your place among us and to accept the privileges and responsibilities of being ENC graduates and faithful alumni.”

Also noteworthy, the College finished its month-long “True to ENC Campaign”, reaching the goal on Saturday of “1,000 Gifts by Commencement.” All contributions made benefit scholarships and directly impact students’ financial needs. The College wishes to thank all of the alumni and friends who helped make the campaign a success.
