Lois Rosenberry Provides ‘Keys to Success’ at Warren Business Forum
Published: November 21, 2013
The Business Society at Eastern Nazarene College hosted the annual Warren Business Forum on November 12th, 2013 at the Mann Student Center. The Forum, a networking event for ENC students and local business owners and professionals, is held in memory of the late John Warren, a local businessman who believed that business and the mission of Christ go hand in hand.
The evening began with appetizers and networking in the student center lobby before entering the dining commons. Senior business major, Raymond Cheung kicked off the evening with a brief history behind the generosity of John Warren, founder of the Warren Lightning Rod company, which makes the annual Warren Business Forum possible. Steve Humeniuk, the current president of Warren Lightning Rod, shared how he plans on maintaining the legacy that John Warren left behind, stating that “Business is indeed missions.”
Senior Leo Silva, President of the Business Society, then introduced keynote speaker Lois Mitten Rosenberry, the founder, president, and CEO of Children’s Discovery Center. In her address, Rosenberry proposed three keys to success to inspire young entrepreneurs achieve their goals.
Her first key to success: be the best! “My mother instilled in me to always do my best,” she said “Finishing what you start, being on time and do what you say you are going to do.” The second key was innovation. Competition inspired Rosenberry to keep innovating so that her business would offer the best childcare for her customers. It wasn’t always easy for Rosenberry; she explained how she received criticism for integrating faith into the childcare curriculum. The final key to success was faith. She encouraged business people to address social needs with Christian compassion. Because of these three keys, Roseberry was named Northwest Ohio Entrepreneur of the Year and Small Business Person of the Year.
ENC business students commented on the evening. Senior Jerome Sinanan stated, “I like to see my fellow classmates connecting with working professionals in the local area, and the food is always good.” “This is my second year attending the Warren Business Forum,” said junior Tyler Perron. “The speaker had great professional insight.”
