Lectures on the First American Evangelical and Boston’s Churches

Eastern Nazarene College’s Boston Semester Program will present two free historical lectures this fall. Both lectures are free and open to the public and offer chapel credit for ENC students.

Dr. Rick Kennedy, Professor of History at Point Loma Nazarene University, will give a lecture entitled “Cotton Mather: The First American Evangelical” on Friday, October 24 at 7:00pm in Munro Parlor. Dr. Kennedy will give a walking tour of the Cotton Mather Trail in Boston’s North End on Saturday, October 25 starting at 3:00pm at the Paul Revere House. The tour will end with a pizza dinner and Dr. Kennedy will discuss his vocation as a Christian historian and writer.

Dr. Margaret Bendroth, executive director of the Congregational Library and Archives in Boston, will give a lecture drawing from her book, Fundamentalists in the City: Conflict and Division in Boston’s Churches, 1885-1950, on Wednesday, November 19 at 7:00pm in Munro Parlor. Dr. Bendroth is the author of several books, including The Spiritual Practice of Rememberingand A School of the Church: Andover Newton Across Two Centuries.
