Eastern Nazarene College, a fully accredited Christian liberal arts college on Boston’s south shore, is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic – Carpenter to perform routine and extensive preventative maintenance and repair procedures of all campus buildings, mechanical equipment and utility systems. This position reports to the Maintenance Manager and the hours are 7:00am – 3:45pm. Candidates must possess a committed Christian faith evident in daily life, and support the mission and educational philosophy of the College.

RESPONSIBILITES:

Perform carpentry tasks and general maintenance tasks as needed including building repair and installation of furnishings as needed.
Set up and operate drill press, grinder, saws and other wood working tools to make repairs.
Build, repair, and install counters, cabinets, furnishings, benches, partitions, floors, doors, building framework, and trim.
Assess and organize assigned projects, compile material estimates and establish completion timeline.
Recommend design option for renovations and repairs of buildings and roofs when requested by manager.
Communicate daily with the Assistant Director of Facilities for Maintenance Management the progress of the current project and all other important issues when requested.
Utilize the school work order system to account for repairs in progress and update system with labor and comments when work is complete.
Keep workshop area clean regularly. Ensure all tools and equipment are in proper place and in good working order.
Provide maintenance coverage for after hours maintenance calls as needed when assigned.
Present a professional, positive and helpful attitude at all times when interacting with constituents, student employees and co-workers.
Assist Facility Managers by monitoring assigned student workers, train students on procedures, safe tool operation, inspecting work, and performance.
Assist with snow and ice removal on campus roadways, walkways, steps and parking lots as season requires and whenever assigned.
Handle appropriate snow removal machinery in a professional and safe manner.
Uphold all institutional policies and OSHA regulations regarding worker safety.
Wear uniform issued by ENC at all times while working on campus properties.
Assist Facility Managers by monitoring assigned student workers, train students on procedures, safe tool operation, inspecting work, and performance.
Other duties as assigned by manager

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent; or two or more years’ experience and/or Technical training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experienced with all aspects of residential and commercial maintenance and repairs.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary.
Must be detail oriented and demonstrate good decision-making skills and work independently.
Must have the ability to prioritize and organize work effectively.
