Campus Kinder Haus, an early childhood center operated by Eastern Nazarene College, is seeking a Long-Term Substitute Teacher to work with staff, students and families for the duration of the leave (beginning Feb 2024). Campus Kinder Haus is a center for children, ages 2 years 9 months through 6 years. The center serves families in the South Shore and Boston areas as well as the college community. CKH implements a holistic approach to developmental education and is a laboratory preschool, employing and mentoring college students studying education at Eastern Nazarene College.

Long Term Substitute Teacher Classroom Responsibilities
- Teach the appropriate lesson plans for each day that are provided. These plans are to be kept in the classroom and must be available to parents. Provide daily experiences in the subjects of art, music, literature, science, dramatic play, mathematics, Bible, and gross motor skills. Prepare a monthly newsletter for parents that include themes, special events, and a list of consumable materials needed for the month.
- Provide and supervise activities which promote the social, emotional, spiritual, cognitive, and physical development of each child.
- Maintain accurate attendance records at all times throughout the day. Maintain accurate emergency contact lists and keep them with you as you bring your class from space to space within the center and on fire drills/field trips.
- Provide and maintain a neat, clean and organized classroom; take responsibility for upkeep of all educational equipment and materials. (This includes keeping the teacher’s room, kitchen, playground and great room clean and orderly after each use.)
- Monitor each child’s development, sharing any and all concerns with the Director and, when appropriate, with the child’s parents/guardians.
- Observe children consistently throughout the week and document their growth and development. Prepare progress reports two times per year (January and June) and discuss reports with the Director and each child’s parent(s). Copy progress reports and keep in children’s files.
- Work with parents whenever possible to promote understanding of growth and development of their child in school; encourage parent participation in the classroom and school program; be available for parent conferences whenever necessary; attend parent workshops and other school functions (i.e. Christmas program, graduation).
- Supervise all activities to ensure safety of each child at all times.
- Work with and evaluate college student aides’ who work in the classroom and report concerns immediately to the Director.
- Work with all other staff members in a collaborative manner.
- Follow personnel policies of Eastern Nazarene College (see staff handbook).
- Promptly report issues involving specific children or room management to the Director.
- Attend all CKH training while employed.
- Attend staff meetings (two hours each month) afterschool and/or evening meetings.
- Notify the Director in event of illness (if possible, the day before or no later than 6:00 AM the morning of).
- Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education.
- Experience and training for the designation of Lead Teacher under the MA Early Education and Care specifications.
- Two references, one may be a written reference.
- Documentation that your physical and immunizations are on file in the Director’s office.
- Completion of a CORI (a criminal investigation report), returned to the Director, reviewed and approved by the Director.
- Current certification in American Red Cross, First Aid and CPR. (A copy of these certificates must be kept in your file in the office.)
- A committed Christian faith evident in daily life, and support for the mission and educational philosophy of the College.
