Eastern Nazarene College, a fully accredited Christian liberal arts college on Boston’s south shore, is seeking a Head Athletic Trainer. In this 10-month position reporting to the Associate Vice President of Athletics, you will ensure that students on the NCAA-sponsored athletics teams are safe by monitoring practice and games, evaluating injuries, and providing therapeutic intervention, rehabilitation, and treatment of injuries. In addition, this role will show athletes how to build their strength and avoid further injury. This important role requires extensive student and coach interaction, and the ability to confidently interact and engage with a diverse population. Master’s degree is required along with NATABOC Certification, Massachusetts State License in Athletic Training, and CPR/AED Certification. Must possess a committed Christian faith evident in daily life, support for the mission and educational philosophy of the College, and a desire for serving in the context of an urban Christian liberal arts institution.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide daily practice and game coverage for all NCAA teams.
Manage medical issues that arise with student-athletes and determine the proper treatment plan.
Communicate with coaches and strength coaches regarding the treatment plans of their athletes.
Refer student-athletes to the proper physician or medical professional on or off-campus for further evaluation of their mental health issues, injuries, and illnesses as appropriate.
Communicate and coordinate with the physician regarding treatment plans and schedule to return to play.
Create and execute rehabilitation plans in order to return athletes to physical activity.
Serve as a first responder as required, providing care and managing concussions sustained within athletic-related activities.
Oversee daily tasks of the athletic training facilities and staff members.
Provide guidance and training to other staff members.
Create schedules based on practice and game calendars, provide morning, afternoon, late-night, and weekend coverage of practices and games.
Enforce all relevant health and safety standards; ensure the safety of athletic training room equipment and modalities with yearly calibrations.
Create policies and procedures for the athletic training department.
Manage health records and forms for student-athletes, documenting injury evaluations, treatments, and referrals and ensuring that every athlete has completed the clearance process before participating.
Submit insurance claims and liaise as necessary with insurance companies.
Maintain communications with health-care-related departments on campus, enabling athletes to be provided with multiple avenues for physical and mental healing.
Work closely with academics to provide class accommodations to injured athletes.
Perform administrative work as necessary.
Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

A Master’s degree is required along with NATABOC Certification, Massachusetts State License in Athletic Training, and CPR/AED Certification.
Excellent mentoring relationships with students, collegial relationships with staff and faculty, and demonstrated integration of best practices in NCAA Division III athletics.
Demonstrated successful record of, and commitment to, diversity and gender equity.
Possess a committed Christian faith evident in daily life, and support for the mission and educational philosophy of the College.
