Floater Teacher

Eastern Nazarene College, a fully accredited Christian liberal arts college on Boston’s south shore, is seeking a part-time Floater Teacher (up to 29 hours per week) for Campus Kinder Haus (CKH), an early childhood center serving families in the South Shore and Boston areas as well as the college community.  CKH Teachers work with students and families for the school year. 

CKH is a laboratory pre-school and implements a holistic approach to developmental education.  In addition to its regular staff, Campus Kinder Haus employs and mentors college students studying education at Eastern Nazarene College.

Part-Time Hourly Staff



Lead Teacher Responsibilities

  • Assume responsibility for operation of the center in the absence of the Director
  • Assist the Director when necessary

General Responsibilities

  • Work with all other staff members in a collaborative manner.
  • Follow personnel policies of Eastern Nazarene College (see staff handbook)
  • Promptly report issues involving specific children or room management to the Director.
  • Complete 20 hours of training for Department of Early Education and Care, including 5 hours of Special Education Training.  
  • Attend staff meetings (two hours each month) afterschool and/or evening meetings. 
  • Notify the director in event of illness (the day before if possible, or no later than 6:00 AM the morning of)  

Classroom Responsibilities

  • Work as a substitute teacher when needed.
  • Provide and supervise activities which promote the social, emotional, spiritual, cognitive, and physical development of each child.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records at all times throughout the day.  Maintain accurate emergency contact lists and keep them with you as you bring your class from space to space within the center and on fire drills/field trips.
  • Provide and maintain a neat, clean and organized classroom; take responsibility for upkeep of all educational equipment and materials.  (This includes keeping the teacher’s room, kitchen, playground and great room clean and orderly after each use.)
  • Monitor each child’s development, sharing any and all concerns with the Director and, when appropriate, with the child’s parents/guardians.
  • Work with parents whenever possible to promote understanding of growth and development of their child in school; encourage parent participation in the classroom and school program; be available for parent workshops and other school functions (i.e. Christmas program, graduation). 
  • Supervise all activities to ensure safety of each child at all times. 
  • Work with and evaluate college student aides’ who work in the classroom and report concerns immediately to the director.

Office Responsibilities

  • Give breaks to teachers as needed.
  • Log and file incident and injury reports in children’s permanent files.
  • Check the mail and distribute as needed.
  • File and distribute faxes received on the CKH fax machine.
  • General organization and de-cluttering of office.
  • Assist in printing and posting monthly special events such as fundraisers or P.J. days.
  • Notify aides of any necessary CKH notices/announcements.
  • File each teacher’s weekly lesson plans in yearly notebook.
  • Pass out parent notes or other fliers 
  • Assist Director as needed.
  • Update the parent and teacher calendars each month 
  • Assist in completing orders for classroom supplies, materials and equipment.  Distribute orders to classrooms.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education
  • Experience and training for the designation of Lead Teacher under the MA Early Education and Care specifications
  • Current certification in American Red Cross, First Aid and CPR. (A copy of these certificates must be kept in your file in the office.)
  • A committed Christian faith evident in daily life, and support for the mission and educational philosophy of the College.
