Faculty Position – Psychology (Full-Time)

The Division of Church, Society, and Humanity at Eastern Nazarene College invites mission fit applicants for a full-time, tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level, teaching courses in the Psychology major of our Social Sciences Program. Three different tracks are offered within the Psychology Major:  the Social Relations track (B.A.), the Child and Adolescent Development track (B.A.), and the Clinical and Research track (B.S.).  We also offer a Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy (M.S.).

We seek mission fit candidates with expertise in teaching a broad range of courses in Psychology; demonstrated effectiveness in serving culturally and linguistically diverse student populations; and experience teaching in a variety of formats (e.g., on-ground-hybrid, online).  Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate teaching excellence and who have a desire to serve in the context of an urban Christian liberal arts institution.

The ideal candidate will have completed a Ph.D. in Psychology and be actively involved in research in their content area.  Masters candidates should be aware that tenure at ENC requires a doctorate or other terminal degree in the field.  The candidate must be committed to teaching in a Christian liberal arts setting and prepared to foster the academic, professional and spiritual growth of students.




  • Carry a teaching load of 24 credits (typically eight three-credit courses) per academic year, with primary teaching responsibility in the undergraduate program.
  • Typical courses in this area include: Introduction to Psychology, Lifespan Development, Theories of Personality, Child Development, and Adolescent Development.    The candidate’s expertise and interests will determine other courses, including the possibility of teaching in our M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy program.
  • Participate in the development and improvement of curricula and courses.

Other responsibilities will include advising, committee work, attendance at faculty meetings and commencement, and service to the program, college, and community.


  • Have completed a Masters in psychology or a related Social Sciences field. Applicants without a doctorate or not in a doctoral program must be willing to pursue one soon after hire.
  • Experience teaching at the undergraduate level.  Applicants with other kinds of teaching experience will be considered.
  • Ability to meet the educational needs of a diverse student populations, including non-traditional students.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrate an active commitment to Christian faith and service, which is in accord with the mission of Eastern Nazarene College and display a philosophy of Christian higher education consistent with the college’s Wesleyan tradition.

Our lifestyle guidelines reflect the “Articles of Faith and “Agreed Statement of Belief” of the Church of the Nazarene and the Mission Statement of Eastern Nazarene College. The premise of our lifestyle guidelines is to exemplify such personal, moral, and religious conduct as shall be above reproach. This lifestyle premise is for everyone working and living on campus: students, faculty, staff, and administration. This lifestyle premise is a rationale for desirable behavior and attitudes.
