Jack Connell Biography

Dr. Jack Connell is Eastern Nazarene College’s fourteenth president. Under President Connell’s leadership, ENC forges forward toward future growth as it celebrates 100 years of academic excellence and a rich legacy of leadership and service at its current Quincy campus. Dr. Connell stated upon his election, “My heart has been captured by the rich history and profound mission of ENC, and I am deeply honored to be selected by the Board of Trustees as ENC’s president. I believe there are amazing opportunities in front of us, and I look forward to engaging with and serving the entire community as we move boldly and hopefully into a bright future.”

President Connell came to ENC from his alma mater Houghton College in Houghton, New York, where he served as Provost and Dean of the Faculty from 2016 to 2019. Dr. Connell served as the chief academic officer and chief enrollment officer, and was instrumental in the development of new academic programs, the growth of Houghton Online, and the launch of new extension site programs. From 2008 to 2016, he spearheaded major initiatives in enrollment, advancement, and strategic planning at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, NY as Vice President of Northeastern Seminary, Senior Vice President of Advancement, and Executive Vice President. Dr. Connell led the largest comprehensive fundraising campaign in the college’s history, a campaign that raised more than $40 million dollars for scholarships, endowment, and capital projects. Dr. Connell also served as the Associate Dean of the Beeson Center for Biblical Preaching and Church Leadership at Asbury Theological Seminary and Executive Director of Church Relations at Houghton College.

In addition to his extensive experience in higher education, Dr. Connell has nineteen years of pastoral experience. A third generation Wesleyan pastor, he served congregations in Canandaigua, NY, Syracuse, NY, and Houghton, NY. During his eleven years as senior pastor of the Crosswinds Wesleyan Church in Canandaigua, the congregation became one of the largest churches in the denomination with average weekend attendance growing from 200 to 1400.

His educational background includes a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Administration from the University of Rochester Warner School of Education; a Doctor of Ministry in Leadership and Biblical Preaching and a Master of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, KY; and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Houghton College. Dr. Connell has served on numerous boards, including thirteen years as a member of the Houghton College Board of Trustees. With two doctoral degrees, executive-level experience with Christian colleges and theological seminaries, leadership and strategic planning skills, pastoral and teaching experience, and boundless passion for the transformative mission of Christian higher education, Dr. Connell is uniquely prepared for his new role at Eastern Nazarene College.

President Connell resides in Quincy, Massachusetts with his wife Wendy, a special education teacher. They have been married for 31 years and are the proud parents of four adult children: David, Rebekah, Jonathan, and Michael. When he is not fulfilling his presidential and family responsibilities, Dr. Connell is an avid runner, reader, and sports fan. Dr. and Mrs. Connell are the proud owners of the First Dog, Alaska.
