Grand Opening of Student Center Café and Lounge
Published: October 18, 2011
On Thursday, October 13, a ribbon cutting ceremony officially opened the newly renovated Mann Student Center lobby, featuring a new Starbucks coffee counter, named the “Hebrews Café”, café tables and chairs, and an open lounge area, dedicated to the late alumna Linda Whitling, who served in the Student Development Office.
“The Hebrews Café and the new Linda Whitling Lounge provides a totally different atmosphere,” says Vern Wesley, Vice President for Student Development. “I have seen students working alone on their computers, in groups playing cards, talking one-on-one with professors, and workers taking an occasional break.”
At the ribbon cutting ceremony several ENC staff and administration members spoke about the new space, Student Government President Payne Ford expressed his thanks on behalf of the students, and Dr. Jan Lanham led a special rededication of the Linda Whitling Lounge, speaking as a long-time friend and colleague of Ms. Whitling.
The space was bustling over the Homecoming weekend with alumni and friends who were enthusiastic about the renovations. Wesley is delighted with the results. “I have been pleasantly surprised by the energy and excitement created by the new café in the Mann Student Center. It is truly a college community space.”
