Emeritus professor of History Donald Yerxa has had review essays published in successive issues of Books & Culture. His essay on the naval history of the War of 1812 appeared in the March/April issue. Yerxa commented on the many books coming off the presses with the 200th anniversary of the conflict. And he wrote an essay on “The Moral Imperative of History” for the May/June issue. This essay assesses recent books on WWII by Timothy Snyder (who spoke at ENC earlier this month) and Michael Burleigh.
Professor Lowell H. Hall (Chemistry) and L. Mark Hall (‘93) along with scientists from the University of Connecticut and the University of Alberta, Canada have received word that a major paper has been accepted for publication in The Journal of Chemical Information and Modeling. The paper is entitled “Development of Ecom50 and Retention Index Models for Non-Targeted Metabolomics: Identification of 1,3-dicyclohexylurea in Human Serum by HPLC/Mass Spectrometry”. This paper reports the identification of a new human metabolite along with the development of new general methodology for metabolite identification.
