ENC Honors Faculty and Staff at Dinner Celebration

Published: May 4, 2011

On May 2, 2011, ENC Staff and Faculty gathered together in the Commons for a celebratory end-of-the-year Awards Dinner Celebration. Members of the community voted for their fellow co-workers to honor them for their service to the students and the institution.

For the 2011 faculty awards, Joseph Williams of Chemistry was honored for Teaching Excellence, History professor Randall Stephens was honored for Professional Achievement and Anna Brecke, Director of the Center for Academic Services, was honored with an Administrative Faculty Award. ?

Staff members receiving the Exemplary Service Award were Keri Lewis, Assistant Director of Financial Aid, Jackie Stanford, Secretary to the Department of Religion and Philosophy and the Teacher Education Department, and Carolyn Morse, Secretary for the Athletics Department.

Special honors were given to two employees who are leaving the college this year. Karl Giberson, Professor of Physics and a leading scholar in the debate on science and religion, was honored for his 27 years of service as an ENC professor after resigning to pursue several professional scholarship and writing opportunities. Kay Merrill, Secretary for the Social Science Division for 23 years, was also honored after announcing her retirement. Both have contributed greatly to the community and have touched numerous lives over the years. Eastern Nazarene College wishes both of them, and others leaving this year, the very best in their future endeavors.

Also honored at the dinner were staff and faculty members who have given 5, 10, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 years of service, all the way up to James Cameron, Professor Emeritus of History who has given 60 years of service to ENC. A “Travels With Charlie” award was given to Brad Thorne, director of the Brickley Center, and John Estey from the Adult and Graduate Studies Division. The award is from an endowment providing funds for a vacation to employees who have given numerous years of service to the college.

As the summer approaches, Eastern Nazarene College is proud to honor the individuals who dedicate their lives to the students and the institution.
