ENC Fall Athletic Teams Claim Three Conference Championships

The Eastern Nazarene College men’s soccer, women’s tennis, and women’s volleyball teams all captured conference championships this fall. The Lions’ women’s tennis team clinched its first-ever Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) crown October 20 and the women’s volleyball and men’s soccer teams both took home their first-ever New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) titles November 10.
The ENC women’s volleyball and men’s soccer teams will make their NCAA Tournament debuts November 15 and 16, respectively while the women’s tennis team will wait until the spring to make its first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament.
The Lions’ women’s volleyball team will take on Tufts in the NCAA Tournament first round November 15 in Medford, Massachusetts. The ENC men’s soccer team will travel to Troy, New York to face Rensselaer in the NCAA Tournament first round November 16.
The ENC women’s tennis team edged top-seeded Johnson & Wales in the GNAC Tournament finals 5-4 October 20 at the Winchester Indoor Tennis Center. Junior Emily Ruttkowski was named the GNAC Tournament Most Valuable Player while Sharon Biondi and Veronica Jimenez were also selected to the All-Tournament team.
The Lions’ women’s volleyball team topped second-seeded New England College 3-1 at the Lahue Physical Education Center November 10 in the NECC Tournament championship match. Sophomore Ruth Aguilar was named the NECC Tournament Most Valuable Player and also garnered NECC Player of the Year honors this fall. Courtney McCarthy and Jessica Caldwell joined Aguilar on the NECC All-Tournament team.
The ENC men’s soccer team stormed through the NECC Tournament to claim their first NECC crown. The Lions downed Dean 2-0 in the first round before powering past New England College 6-1 on the road. In the NECC Tournament championship match, Eastern Nazarene bested top-seeded Lesley 3-1 at Hormel Stadium in Medford, Massachusetts. Junior Leon Zaffonato was named the NECC Tournament Most Valuable Player while Edmilson Centeio, Sunil Lepcha, and Charlie Swann were all tabbed to the All-Tournament team.
In the 2019 calendar year, Eastern Nazarene has captured five conference championships as the Lions’ men’s tennis and softball teams claimed league titles in the spring.
