Eastern Nazarene College accreditation is continued

Published: March 30, 2011

The New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc. (NEASC) has continued accreditation for Eastern Nazarene College.

At its March 4, 2011 meeting, NEASC’s Commission on Institutions of Higher Education affirmed that ENC be continued in accreditation following the completion of its 10-year Comprehensive Evaluation.

“Accreditation is a crucial component toward maintaining academic excellence,” said ENC President Corlis McGee, who noted that as part of the accreditation process the college produced a self-study report. “We greatly appreciated the opportunity to receive peer review and input, and were pleased to note that the Commission and visiting team affirmed the strengths and challenges ENC identified in our self-study report.”

In particular, the Commission commended ENC’s clarity of mission as a Christian liberal arts college as well as its efforts to diversify its student population and embrace “a new multicultural reality.” The report also noted that college officials are continuing to address institutional challenges, such as strengthening its financial resources and addressing deferred maintenance and renovations to residence halls.

“The accreditation process is a valuable tool for ensuring that ENC’s strategic planning process helps us to continually improve the strong Christian liberal arts education we are able to offer our students,” McGee said.

NEASC accreditation indicates that an institution of higher education meets or exceeds criteria for the assessment of institutional quality periodically evaluated through a peer review process.
