Festival of Life 2020 Cancelled at Eastern Nazarene College

Mar 10, 2020

Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker declared a State of Emergency today after the total number of COVID-19 cases in the state more than doubled to 92.  More positive cases are expected as a result of increased testing.  The state has eliminated all non-essential travel, both international and domestic, and has strongly recommended that the private sector cancels or postpones large group gatherings to mitigate further spread of the virus.

According to Jeffrey Kirksey, Vice President of Student Life & Campus Services at Eastern Nazarene College, “After thoughtful consideration with the Eastern Field NYI Council, we have come to the conclusion that, in the interest of public health and safety, postponing Festival of Life 2020 at the college on March 13-15 is the most prudent decision at this time.  While we understand that many students, youth leaders, and organizers have dedicated considerable time and effort over the past year to the Festival, we feel strongly that cancelling the event is necessary to protect the health of our campus community and guests.”

Eastern Nazarene College will continue conversations with the leadership of the NYI Council regarding logistical implications of the cancellation, including discussions of possible future dates for Festival of Life 2020 if it is considered safe to hold a large public gathering.
