Published: September 2, 2010
As the first day of classes began for academic year 2010-2011, the campus paused for an Opening Convocation during the first chapel service of the year.
The Wollaston Chapel was packed with students and staff members with faculty in academic regalia behind President Corlis McGee as she addressed the student body, welcoming them to campus. In her message, Dr. McGee emphasized to the students about the importance of reaching out for help when needed and assured them that the entire ENC community is ready to help and assist when asked.
Members of the faculty and administration also participated in the ceremony. Dr. Joseph Williams from the Chemistry Department opened the service in prayer, and Rev. Dr. Corey MacPherson, Chaplain of the college welcomed the students and lead them in a recitation of the Apostles Creed. Dr. Timothy Wooster, Provost and Dean of the college, addressed and explained the significance of regalia. Scripture from Isaiah 40:28-31 was read by Coach Matthew Kutt from the Movement Arts Department and the closing Benediction was delivered by Professor of Psychology, Dr. Jan Lanham.
Dr. Timothy Shetler lead the congregation in the hymns “Be Thou My Vision”, “How Great Thou Art”, and “He Giveth More Grace”, accompanied by pianist Dr. Brady Millican and organist and professor Lambert Brandes.
