Instructional Designer & Technologist

 

The Instructional Designer & Technologist is responsible for the implementation and support of Learning Management Systems, working closely with faculty and ITS. Responsibilities include day-to-day LMS operations, development of course materials, integration of tools and development/delivery of training to faculty. Reports to the Chief Information Officer.

  • Responsibilities:
    • Leverage knowledge and experience to design fully online and hybrid course curriculum
    • Manage the implementation of the Canvas Learning Management System
    • Coordinate and conduct faculty development and training related to the LMS
    • Collaborate with Traditional and Nontraditional faculty, directors and ITS staff
    • Design and implement Adult & Graduate Studies fully online curriculum
    • Migrate course content from legacy Moodle LMS to Canvas and redesign as appropriate
    • Develop templates for consistent, reusable online courses
    • Administer all aspects of the Canvas LMS including security, course content, accessibility and archival
    • Produce policies and procedures related to course construction and faculty delivery
    • Research and implement new solutions for improved online course offerings
    • Assist faculty to determine the best course delivery mechanisms and tools
    • Work with ITS staff to maintain the integration of Colleague and Canvas
    • Interface with Ellucian and other 3rd party vendors, opening and managing tickets as necessary
    • Review online courses annually for improvement and relevance
    • Troubleshoot various technologies related to and incorporated into the LMS
    • Document decisions made with faculty in the construction of online curriculum
    • Serve as primary ITS contact for LMS related issues
    • Respond to critical issues on nights / weekends
    • Update web content related to LMS in a content management system (WordPress preferred)
    • May serve on select related committees
    • Other duties as required
  • Requirements:

    Skills

    1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related experience with demonstrated knowledge of instructional design and educational technology best practices in the context of higher education online, hybrid / blended programming
    2. Minimum of 5 years Learning Management System and Online Course curriculum development (Canvas preferred)
    3. Familiarity with emerging learning technologies (lecture capture, streaming, audience response, multimedia, collaboration, etc.)
    4. Ability to work constructively with faculty on curriculum development and delivery
    5. Ability to develop and deliver training to small and large audiences
    6. Experience developing online course content including training programs to streamline delivery
    7. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage simultaneous projects
    8. Demonstrated experience writing and receiving grants a plus
    9. A background in teaching and learning is desirable
    10. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
