Academic Vice President and Dean of the College


Eastern Nazarene College, a four-year Christian liberal arts college on Boston’s south shore, is seeking an Academic Vice President and Dean of the College to serve as the Chief Academic Officer of the College, including traditional undergraduate and adult/graduate programs. Reporting to the President, you will lead the overall academic program of the College, ensuring faithfulness to our mission of integrating the best of education and the best in Christianity to students from diverse backgrounds.

  • Responsibilities:
    • Provide strategic leadership to academic decision-making and allocation of resources within the context of institutional priorities   
    • Ensure the robust assessment and quality improvement of all academic programs 
    • Direct faculty recruitment and retention, paying particular attention to enhancing the cultural diversity of our faculty   
    • Collaborate with faculty and the vice president of enrollment to oversee the development of new academic programs that are faithful to mission and will facilitate enrollment growth 
    • Oversee the development and implementation of all academic policies and procedures 
    • Serve as the dean of the faculty and chair faculty meetings 
    • Oversee faculty development efforts    
    • Chair the Promotion Committee and the Tenure Review Committees
    • Chair the Academic Leadership Team 
    • Oversee the Academic Faculty Committees including the Curriculum Committee, the Academic Policy Committee, and the Instructional & Professional Development Committee
    • Oversee the development of online and off-site programs   
    • Serve as institutional liaison to the New England Commission on Higher Education (NECHE) 
    • Collaborate with the faculty and the vice president for student development in the integration of curricular and co-curricular programming   
    • Set the academic calendar and oversee planning for academic convocation and commencement 
    • Oversee the publication and dissemination of the college catalog 
    • Supervise the following offices: Library, Chaplain, Registrar, Institutional Research, Campus Kinder Haus, Center for Academic Success, Graduate Assistant Program  
    • Serve as a member of the president’s cabinet 
    • Serve as leader of the campus and chair of the cabinet in the absence of the President 
    • Work with the Board of Trustees and its appropriate sub-committees 
    • Represent ENC in the academy and with other external constituents    
    • Be a lifelong learner who remains active in one’s own discipline and pursues ongoing professional development as an academic leader

    • Strong Christian commitment with a demonstrated track record of involvement in a local church.   
    • Profound commitment to the Christian liberal arts and the mission of Eastern Nazarene College 
    • Enthusiastic support of the doctrine and policies of the Church of the Nazarene
    • Earned doctorate or equivalent terminal credentials 
    • Demonstrated leadership experience in an academic setting 
    • Outstanding leadership, organizational, communication, and relational skills

Our lifestyle guidelines reflect the “Articles of Faith and “Agreed Statement of Belief” of the Church of the Nazarene and the Mission Statement of Eastern Nazarene College. The premise of our lifestyle guidelines is to exemplify such personal, moral, and religious conduct as shall be above reproach. This lifestyle premise is for everyone working and living on campus: students, faculty, staff, and administration. This lifestyle premise is a rationale for desirable behavior and attitudes. To be in accord with the purposes and spirit of the College and with the doctrines and standards of the Church of the Nazarene, our lifestyle practices exclude: drinking alcoholic beverages, engaging in sexual acts with anyone other than your spouse, viewing pornographic and violent videos/movies, using illegal drugs or misuse of prescription drugs, participating in gambling, or using tobacco in any form. The College also asks employees to follow dress code guidelines. The College expects all employees to live by this lifestyle premise.
