Links to Great Sites- Recommended by CAS Staff
- www.readplease.com allows for students to cut and paste parts of their papers
into the webpage and it will read it back to them. Helping them to hear, and
therefore recognize, any areas in their paper containing portions that do make
sense.
- For anyone looking to understand how to write papers for the religion
department (including any of the CP classes taught by religion professors) look
to Professor Severson's webpage (www.ericseverson.com). On the bottom of the
page is a button "Writing Guide." Click on it and you will find not only info
on writing papers but also a specific link for Turabian - which is what writing
for that discipline requires.
- The Online Writing Lab ("OWL") at Purdue University provides writing and research help, such as guides to MLA and APA format. http://owl.english.purdue.edu.
- While plot summaries should not be read in place of the actual texts assigned for class, for many reading, especially in literature classes, they can be helpful supplemental readings. www.sparknotes.com is a good resource for chapter-by-chapter summaries and plot synopses, but be sure to check with the professor first to see if he or she approves of using these.
- The Nease Library’s website, www.library.enc.edu, connects students to sites that can help with research. Among others, Info Trac is an excellent research database, LexisNexis provides news articles, and the MLA International Bibliography is a good place to find scholarly articles on literature.
- http://www.mygretutor.com offers a variety of preparation materials for the GRE. Self-guided tutorials, vocabulary builders and practice tests are available, among other tools.
