Polkinghorne Society was established in 2006 to enhance the robust
between science and religion. Funded by the Local Societies Initiative
of the Metanexus
Institute, Eastern Nazarene College
(ENC), and the Historical Society,
the Polkinghorne Society takes advantage of the resources in science
religion that exist in the Boston area and at ENC. The Society
sponsors public lectures, informal
and study groups.
Society is named in honor of Sir John Polkinghorne.
On May 19, 1998,
John delivered a lecture, “A Scientist’s View of Religious Truth,” to a
packed audience at ENC.
He received a standing ovation. It was the climax of a three-day visit
by the renowned science-and-religion scholar, which in turn capped a
team taught “Polkinghorne Seminar.” Like Polkinghorne, the Society
to take seriously the claims of the historic Christian faith while
the importance of modern science.
