Academic Standing and Academic Probation
Academic Standing is determined by the number of credits attempted and the grade point average achieved (GPA). It is an indicator of a student's progress toward graduation. The more credit hours attempted, the higher the grade point average must be to remain in good academic standing and be making steady progress toward graduation.

The table below shows the minimum grade point average that must be achieved at each level of attempted credits in order to be in good academic standing:

Attempted Credits Minimum Grade Point Average
19-32.9
1.7
33-48.9
1.8
49-63.0
1.9
64 or more credits
2.0

Students who are not in good academic standing will be placed on academic probation, academic probation without financial aid, or academically suspended based on the number of terms the student has failed to achieve the minimum grade point average outlined above.

Some Important Facts About Academic Probation, Suspension and GPA

  • Students on academic probation are restricted to 13 credit hours during the probationary period.
  • Only students in good academic standing may participate in student government, intercollegiate athletics, college drama presentations (except where required for a class), ENC summer ministry teams, or tour off campus with ENC music ensembles.
  • If after 1 semester on Academic Probation the cumulative grade point average has not improved the student may be academically suspended.
  • If after 2 successive semesters on Academic Probation the cumulative grade point average has not improved the student will be academically suspended.
  • At any time if a student's grade point average falls below a 1.0 average, a student may be academically suspended.
  • Students who are academically suspended are not eligible to apply for readmission until after the lapse of one regular semester. Students are expected to take classes to improve the academic standing prior to being considered for re-admission. Generally, the improved GPA for the student must follow the table above to be considered for re-admission.
  • Students who are re-admitted after being academically suspended will be on academic probation and must achieve a minimum grade point average of at least 2.0 for the returning semester or the student may be suspended again.
